SCA Swimming defeats Bourgade Catholic High School; nearly upsets PCDS in first matchup up the season.


The 2016 AZ AIA High School Swimming Season began on Tuesday evening as the SCA Swimming Eagles took on their first opponents of the new season. Led by Captains McKenna Lenderink and Hannah Hasty, the Eagles “A” and “B” relays went 1-2 in the Women’s 200 Freestyle Relay.  The team of Lenderink (SR), Hasty (SR), Jago (FR) and Harrison (JR) would go on to win both the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays during the competition. 


Captain Lenderink delivered outstanding efforts in her individual events too, taking 1st in the 100 Butterfly and 2nd in the 100 Breastroke.  Sophomore Kayla Calvetti added 2 victories to the Eagles tally by claiming 1st in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke.  Rookie Eagle Caylah Jago made her presence known with a dominant victory in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:01.03.  Junior Claire Harrison, making the change from spirts to distances events, delivered an Eagle victory in her first 500 Freestyle of the year. Senior CJ Van Dellen took down the fastest athletes in the men’s field by claiming victory in the Men’s 50 Freestyle.


Next up for the Swimming Eagles is a matchup against Northland Prep on 9/15.
