The Scottsdale Christian Academy Lady Eagles are your 2A State Champions of the 2017 season! The Lady Eagles are bringing home the State Banner…the first time in 11 years since 2006! Thank you to all of our supporters and fans for helping us make this possible.

The Eagles finished the 2017 season 562nd in the Nation, #11 in State and #1 in 2A with an ending season record 37-3.

The Eagles defeated the Veritas Prep Falcons in the championship match in a sweep after entering the match with an undefeated record. The Eagles came out with a strong mind-set focusing on their season words, Mentality & Unity! They played with heart and determination! #momentum #ecc4:12

The Player of the Match was awarded to Senior – Setter Kalli Bentz. Kalli was truly the defining player of the match! She remained consistent in her sets, never stopped hustling, focused on the win and encouraged her teammates especially the players that were new to the State Championship scene. Kalli secured 34 assists for the match, hit a .333% and had 8 incredible digs. Until the start of the season until now she has remained a constant for this team. Graceful in times of pressure and always encouraging on the court. She has this ability to to lead her team and to close out this match in 3 sets shows how she has truly grown as a player, athlete and competitor. It is an absolute honor to recognize Kalli Bentz, the final player of the season to be awarded this recognition of the 2017 State Championship!

Other outstanding players for the State Championship match were our front row attackers! Senior OH and Central Washington commit – Lexi Schamadan was on fire! Lexi led the team with 21 kills and hit a .391%. Her fight and determination was at an all-time high. She wanted this State Championship for her team and she made it happen! Game changer!
Junior OH and Boise State commit – Lauren Ohlinger was another big contributor at the net. Lauren ended the match with 14 kills and led the team in hitting % with a .393, 12 digs. 1 solo block and 2 aces. Her laser focus and calm confidence on the court was so needed at a time when anxiety could have taken over. She added that steady calm on the court you need to balance out the other player personalities.
Junior DS and Wisconsin commit – Emma Whitehead had 9 digs for the match and 1 ace along with the match most outstanding dig on the right side which shifted the momentum in the 3rd set to help get the win over Veritas Prep! You can see the video highlight on our Instagram account, sca_eaglesvb. It’s awesome! Emma added fire, determination and enthusiasm on the court that wins championships!
Sophomore Middle Blocker – Sophia Wadsworth was a wall at the net for the Eagles. Sophia recorded 5 solo blocks shutting down the Falcons and added 3 kills to her stats.

The Lady Eagles will be celebrated this Thursday at 2:15pm at a special pep assembly in the gym! Way to go Eagles and represent SCA!
