Joy Christian visited Scottsdale Christian tonight for their first 2A Metro West matchup of the season. Joy brought an 8-10 overall record, 0-2 in league play, while SCA came into the game 10-3 overall and 4-0 in league play. SCA would be without starters Jordan Moody (Achilles strain) and Zack Curtis (concussion).

SCA wasted no time jumping out to a 21-11 first quarter lead against Joy’s man-to-man defense lead by Eddie Cardona who hit two threes in the quarter and Sam McClue who also finished the quarter with 6 points. Guard Josh Phillips continued to disrupt the opposing teams offenses with steals and deflections.

The second quarter saw much of the same with a tougher SCA defense holding Joy to just 7 points. Daniel Berg hit a couple of threes while forwards Ethan Spry and Tanner Hoffman contributed dunks. SCA took a 46-18 lead into the locker room.

Coach Fredericks took out the starters part way into the third quarter and SCA cruised to an easy 75-33 victory with everyone contributing. SCA was lead by Cardona and Berg, each with 14 points. Hoffman finished with 13 points and Spry 10. McClue and freshman Matthew Fan both finished with 9.

Three games remain this week for SCA as they travel Thursday night to Mingus Union, Friday night to Scottsdale Prep and Saturday to Pima!
