Saturday night the Scottsdale Christian Eagles traveled to Flagstaff to finish their 2017-2018 regular season by facing the Spartans of Northland Prep. The Eagles entered the game 17-6 overall and 10-0 in league play while the Spartans brought a 7-14 overall record, 2-6 in league play.

The contest would be marked by the 1000th career point for junior Ethan Spry and the remarkable three point shooting of sophomore Jordan Moody who would tie the 2a state title in made threes.

Spry who needed just 12 points to reach the milestone would score 9 in the first quarter. However a second foul call at the end of the quarter would put Spry on the bench for the remainder of the half. The Eagles finished the first quarter up 19-14. The Eagles would push away from the Spartans in the second quarter as Moody connected on four threes. six total in the half. The Eagles ran the floor getting out in front of the Spartan defense and senior guard Josh Phillips pushed the ball, finding open Eagles for easy baskets.

Moody continued his three point barrage in the third quarter, connecting on another four three pointers as SCA expanded their lead. Then senior guard Eddie Cardona found a waiting Spry who then connected on a three, bringing the junior’s varsity point total to 1000. Senior Daniel Berg would score 6 points in the fourth as the Eagles ran away with an 81-38 victory.

Moody would finish with a game high 32 points, a total of ten three-pointers, tying the 2a state record. Spry would finish with 15 points, 8 rebounds and the game ball (courtesy of Northland Prep). Berg would add 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Congratulations to the SCA Eagles men’s varsity basketball team on an outstanding regular season finishing 18-6 overall, 10-0 in league play, adding another regional championship to their banner!
