Your Scottsdale Christian Eagles men’s basketball team kicked off their 2a Metro Region tournament Wednesday night with a semi-final game against the Phoenix Country Day Eagles. SCA entered the game 19-5 overall and 7-1 in the region, while PCDS entered the game 15-7 overall and 6-2 in the region.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead behind three pointers from sophomore guard Matthew Fan and senior point guard Reed Myers. Buckets followed by junior forward Darius Whitson and senior forward Ethan Spry who had 12 points in the opening quarter. SCA grabbed a 20-5 lead by the end of the first and never looked back.
The second quarter saw threes from Myers, Fan, Spry and senior guard Ryan Witte along with tough defense from Whitson and strong rebounding from senior forward Luke Swetonic. Spry added 7 points to his total, Myers 6 and Witte 5. The Eagles entered halftime on top 45-19.
The starters wouldn’t see the court in the second half as Coach Fredericks went deep into his bench. Senior forward Hunter Hancock led the Eagles in the third quarter with 6 points. The SCA defense kept PCDS from scoring in the third as the Eagles entered the final quarter on top 56-19. They would finish the game with a 61-32 victory.
The Eagles offense was led by Spry who finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Myers added 9 points and three assists. Fan and Hancock both contributed 6 points (Fan also added 3 assists) and Swetonic pulled down 7 rebounds.
