Your Scottsdale Christian Eagles men’s basketball team traveled to Paradise Valley Friday night to take on 2a Metro Region rival Phoenix Country Day Eagles. SCA entered the game 18-5 overall and 6-1 in the region, while PCDS entered the game 15-6 overall and 6-1 in the region.
PCDS slowed the game from the tip, dropping into a 2-3 zone on defense and on offense by taking nearly a minute per possession. The slowdown strategy kept PCDS in the game for the first quarter before SCA’s offense found its groove in the second, pulling away and not looking back. First quarter scoring was evenly distributed among SCA starters with senior forward Ethan Spry scoring 5, senior point guard Reed Myers scoring 3, junior guard Jordon Moody scoring 3, junior forward Darius Whitson scoring 2 and sophomore guard Matthew Fan adding another 2. SCA lead 15-14 entering the second quarter.
The Eagles picked up their intensity in the second, holding PCDS to just 10 points in the quarter. Offensively, SCA hit 5 three pointers and, moving the ball, found easy buckets against the PCDS zone, scoring 23 points in the quarter. Fan added 9 points, knocking down 3 three-pointers in the quarter. Spry scored 7. SCA entered the half on top 38-24.
SCA outscored PCDS 24-6 in the third quarter. Myers pushed the ball up court and punched holes in the PCDS zone, finding open shooters. Moody knocked down 3 threes and added another 4 points to total 13 in the quarter. Spry added another 7. Coach Fredericks emptied his bench entering the fourth and SCA on top 62-30. SCA went on to beat PCDS 71-39.
The Eagles offense was led by Spry who finished with 19 points on 8-8 fg attempts and 14 rebounds. Moody added 19 points including 5 three-pointers. Fan finished with 13 points. Myers orchestrated the offense with 13 assists.
The SCA men’s basketball team finishes the regular season with a 19-5 record and 7-1 in regional play and ranked #1 in 2a by the AIA.
