Scottsdale Christian hosted the Scottsdale Prep Spartans tonight in a 2a Metro West matchup. The Eagles of SCA entered the game 8-0 in league play, 15-6 overall while SPA entered the game 4-3 in league play, 18-5 overall. The Eagles would again be without senior Tanner Hoffman (ankle) and sophomore Jordan Moody (achilles).

The Eagles backcourt of Josh Phillips, Jacob Kaites and Eddie Cardona pressured the SPA guards from the opening tip, not allowing the Spartans to get into their offense. SPA finished the first quarter without a field goal and just two free throws. Junior forward Ethan Spry scored 8 points in the opening quarter which the Eagles finished up 16-2. Senior guard Eddie Cardona was on fire in the opening quarter and first half knocking down three 3-pointers and finishing the first half with 14 points. The Eagles went in to the locker room at halftime with a comfortable 27-11 lead. The second half saw much of the same as Coach Fredericks emptied his bench early and the Eagles coasted to a 60-36 victory.

The win clinched the 2a Metro West Region title for the Scottsdale Christian Eagles for the second year in a row!

Senior guard Eddie Cardona finished with 14 points and junior forward Ethan Spry contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds. Senior guard Josh Phillips added 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
(special shout out to freshman Ryan “Rusty” Ohlinger for knocking down his first varsity bucket)
