Your 7-2 Scottsdale Christian Eagles men’s basketball team opened the annual Jared Frame Cactus Jam against the Sumner Spartans from Washington state.
The Eagles offense fired on all cylinders Thursday night as they found their groove, pushed the tempo and knocked down shots. The Eagles punched holes in the Spartan 2-1-2 zone defense, scoring 21 points in the first quarter from all areas on the court. Senior point guard Reed Myers pushed the ball, finding open Eagles for easy points while scoring 8 in the quarter. Senior forward Ethan Spry also scored 8 and Junior guard Jordan Moody added a three. Defensively, the Eagles clamped down on the Spartans with the help of Senior forward Luke Swetonic’s size and physicality and the Eagles closed the quarter on top 21-16.
The Eagles offense slowed a bit in the second quarter but their defense allowed just 9 points. The Eagles took a 36-25 lead into the intermission. SCA was lead in the first half by Spry who scored 13 points, Myers who scored 10 and Moody who scored 9.
The Eagles restarted their offense in the third lead by Moody who had 3 three-pointers in the quarter. SCA took a 16 point lead into the final stanza where the Eagles continued hitting shots and getting defensive stops. They would finish on top with their 8th win of the season, 71-60.
The Eagles were led in scoring by Moody who finished with 20 points (6-9 3fg), Spry with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks (8-12 fg), Myers with 18 points and 13 assists (4-7 3fg) and Junior forward Darius Whitson with 10 points (3-3 fg, 4-4 ft)
