Your #1 ranked Scottsdale Christian Eagles men’s basketball team faced the #4 seeded Thatcher Eagles in the state semi-finals on Friday night at Greenway High School. Thatcher entered the game 22-7 while SCA brought a 23-5 record to the contest.
SCA jumped out early against the Thatcher Eagles with an 11-0 lead before Thatcher called a timeout to regroup. Junior guard Jordan Moody had 10 points in the opening quarter including 2 three-pointers. Sophomore guard Matthew Fan added 4 points in the opening stanza. But the SCA offense and defense stumbled in the second, allowing Thatcher to remain in the game. Senior point guard Reed Myers added 5 points in the second quarter while both senior forward Ethan Spry and junior forward Darius Whitson contributed 4 each. SCA entered the half on top 30-24.
SCA defense and well executed offense would be the story of the second half as the Eagles of SCA ran away with the lead. Myers scored 8 straight points for SCA increasing the lead while Moody added 7 points in the third quarter. Thatcher began fouling SCA with 6 minutes left in the game. Moody knocked down 6 free throws and Myers 4. SCA won the semi-final game 62-46.
The Eagles placed three players in double figures led by Moody who scored 24 points (7-13 fg), Myers added 13 points and 6 assists. Spry added 10 points and Whitson 7 rebounds.
