Your 7-2 Scottsdale Christian Eagles men’s basketball team played in the semi-final of the annual Jared Frame Cactus Jam Friday night against the Dimond High School Lynx, who were visiting Arizona from Anchorage, Alaska.
The Eagles offense struggled from the opening tip against the Lynx defense who slowed the pace and kept SCA from getting easy full-court baskets. Unable to penetrate or get easy points in the paint, the Lynx defense would force the Eagles to shoot 70% of their field goal attempts for the game from the three-point line.
The opening quarter saw Senior forward Ethan Spry, Junior guard Jordan Moody and Senior point guard Reed Myers all connect on a three. The Eagles defense fought hard to keep SCA in the game and they finished the first quarter on top 11-9.
But cold three-point shooting and struggling defense would turn the lead over to the Lynx in the second quarter, a lead that SCA would not recover. The Eagles managed only 9 points in the quarter and entered half-time down 20-24. Myers and Moody lead the Eagles in the first half with 6 points a piece.
Myers would inject life into the Eagles offense in the third quarter, scoring 11, including 3 three-pointers. But it would not be enough as the Lynx extended their lead 35-42. Three-pointers from Moody, Myers and Matthew Fan in the fourth quarter could not overcome Dimond as they continued to extend their lead. The Lynx would hand the Eagles their third loss of the season, 48-60.
The Eagles were led in scoring by Myers who finished with 20 points and Moody who finished with 12 points. Junior Darius Whitson added 6 assists.
