The Scottsdale Christian Academy Eagles traveled to Pima, Arizona Saturday night to play the AZPreps #1 ranked 2a Pima Roughriders. This would be the Eagles fourth game in five days, three of which away. The Eagles would also again be without starters Jordan Moody and Zack Curtis who are out due to injury.
Although the Eagles defense was able to hold the Roughriders well below their season average, they were unable to get their offense going until the fourth quarter which proved to be too late, dropping their fifth game of the season 50-57 and their record to 11-5 overall, 5-0 in league play.
The Eagles started the game where they left off the previous night, jumping out quickly against the Roughriders 16-5 lead by senior Tanner Hoffman who had 6 points in the quarter. But fatigue set in just as quickly as the SCA offense sputtered into the second quarter where they scored just 4 points, their lowest point total in a quarter of the season. The Eagle’s took a 20-27 deficit into the locker room at halftime.
The third quarter saw much of the same. Although the Eagles defense held Pima to just 14 points in the quarter they were unable to take advantage on the offensive end. SCA made a run in the fourth quarter lead by junior forward Ethan Spry who had 10 points in the quarter, cutting the lead to five, 48-53. But SCA turnovers were converted to fast break points by Pima and the Roughriders held onto the win.
Spry and Hoffman both finished with double-doubles including 19 points apiece.
Tuesday the Eagles will take on Phoenix Christian, at Phoenix Christian at 7:30pm, returning to play Gilbert Christian at home on Saturday the 20th at 7pm.
