The SCA Middle School Girls JV Basketball team hosted Bethany Christian for the final game of their season at SCA Thursday afternoon in front of a packed house of supporters.
The Eagles got off to a good start, running Coach Ortega’s full court press with energy and enthusiasm, and the game was a fast-paced series of darting actions from one court to the other as the ball changed hands. Pressure from Scarlett Campbell (#1) and Julia Claus (#15) resulted in numerous Bethany turnovers, and Scarlett Isaacson (#11) and Bree Tobin (#31) benefited from the chaos with scores on the break and at the line. Izzy Thiessen (#4) directed the in-bounds plays with panache, and Talyor Lach (#20) operated the half-court offense, and the half ended with much optimism on the Eagles’ bench.
The second half opened with Abi Lund (#5) making a series of aggressive steals in the press and in half-court, while Reece Gibson (#14) scored from the free throw line and the low post, squaring to the basket and taking her defender seemingly at will. Nevertheless it was not enough to overcome the size and experience of the Bethany squad.
