The Scottsdale Christian Academy men’s varsity basketball team opened their 2018-2019 season on the road Tuesday night versus ASU Prep. Although the Eagles would be without senior 6′-8″ all-state forward Ethan Spry, they would return senior all-state and small school player of the year Reed Myers to the floor.
SCA jumped out to an early 18-0 lead and never looked back. The first quarter saw tough defense and unselfish offense capped off by a one handed full court pass from Myers to junior Darius Whitson for a layup. Myers and junior Jordan Moody lead SCA in the quarter with 5 points a piece as SCA closed the quarter ahead 27-3.
SCA extended their lead in the second quarter to 54-6 as they continued to pressure the ball and play unselfishly on the offensive end. Sophomore Matthew Fan lead the quarter in scoring with 6.
The second half saw SCA extend their lead. Late in the third quarter, coach Bob Fredericks pulled his starters and emptied his bench but not before Moody had drained 4 three pointers. The Eagles ended the game on top 88-12.
The Eagles placed five players in double figures lead by Myers with 11 points / 6 assists and Moody with 17 points (5 threes) . Whitson added 10 as did Fan. Senior Jake Mitchell contributed 11.
The Eagle’s first home game will be Thursday night against Leading Edge at 7:30pm. Come out and support your SCA Eagle mens basketball team!
