The 4-0 Scottsdale Christian Academy Eagles took their undefeated record to Goodyear Tuesday night to play the Trivium Prep Academy Crimson Knights in a matchup that would see unselfish offense, gritty defense and a barrage of three pointers.
The Eagles began the game strong offensively, punching holes in the Crimson Knights defense by finding open shooters through unselfish passing. Senior forward Ethan Spry opened the contest with a corner three and would finish with 10 points in the quarter including two three-pointers. The Eagle defense clamped down on the Crimson Knights offense holding them to just 11 points. Senior point guard Reed Myers would connect on two three-pointers in the quarter as the Eagles ended the first up 22-11.
The second quarter would see the Eagles fall into a lull, struggling on both ends as the Crimson Knights behind their loud cheering section would score 16 in the quarter while holding the Eagles to 13, keeping the contest close as the Eagles went into the locker room up 35-27. The Eagles were lead by Spry who had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the half.
The Eagles offense would explode in the third quarter as Myers pushed the ball, pressuring the Trivium defense and finding open Eagles shooters. Junior guard Jordan Moody would catch fire behind Myers assists, connecting on 4 three-pointers and a two, finishing with 14 points in the quarter. Junior guard Darius Whitson would have 8 fast-break points in the quarter and sophomore guard Matthew Fan 7 points as the Eagles would score 27 in the quarter and enter the fourth up 62-34.
Coach Bob Fredericks would empty his bench late in the third and the Eagles coasted to a 73-44 victory.
The Eagles would place 4 players in double figures lead by Moody with 18 points (4 three-pointers), Spry with 16 points (on 5-5 shooting) and 13 rebounds, Fan with 11 points and Whitson with 10 points. Myers would finish with 10 assists.
Your 5-0 Eagles will travel to Eloy Wednesday night to face Santa Cruz Valley.
