On a Senior night celebrating OH Lauren Ohlinger and Libero Emma Whitehead, your SCA Varsity Girls Volleyball team knocked off Phoenix Country Day, 3-0. A large crowd came out to cheer on these girls and thank them for a great career at Scottsdale Christian Academy. They brought energy and the hype to the gym and you could tell it was a special night.

Each player and coach was decked out in T-Shirts and socks that had Lauren and Emma’s face on them and the crowd was entertained with a raffle to see who could serve the volleyball into the ring as well as the traditional ball and candy toss to the crowd by the Volleyball girls. In addition, the crowd was treated to a special singing performance of the National Anthem by Team Manager Brittany Troxell.

The game was controlled right away by SCA. The two Seniors played their hearts out during their last home game. Senior OH Lauren Ohlinger had 15 kills and 8 digs. Senior Libero Emma Whitehead had 15 digs, including one using her head, and 5 assists on the night.

Junior Middle Caroline Montgomery and Sophomore Middle Sophia Wadsworth each had 4 kills. Montgomery also had 4 blocks. Freshman Setter Lexi Lambert had 33 assists on the night. Freshman Laylah Daniels garnered the Player of the Match award for the night with 8 kills with a hitting percentage of .353 and had 3 aces.

The seniors are all special in their own way and all have left a mark on the program. Team Manager, Brittany Troxell has attended SCA since Pre-School and has been a part of the SCA Volleyball program since the 7th grade. OH, Lauren Ohlinger has attended SCA since Kindergarten and has been a 4 year Varsity starter. Libero, Emma Whitehead has attended SCA since Pre-School and has been a 3 year Varsity starter. Alumni Setter, Kalli Bentz was there to present the sharpie and allow the Seniors to “leave their mark” on the volleyball pole padding. They all will definitely be missed, but always remembered for what they have accomplished.

Ohlinger and Whitehead were also honored earlier in the day by The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in which they were nominated to be named an Under Armour All-American. Congratulations to both Emma and Lauren!

The State Tournament begins for the SCA Volleyball team on Friday, November 2 and Saturday November 3. Come out and support the Eagles Volleyball team and they go after a second championship in as many years. Go Eagles!
